Woman’s Club History:
A One Hundred Year Legacy
The Woman’s Club of Hollywood is a growing legacy that began in 1905. We are founding members of the Hollywood Bowl, Easter Sunrise Service, Hollywood High School and The Los Angeles Library. We are committed as strongly today, as we were yesterday, in continuing on in the spirit of those pioneering women who paved the road with hope, courage and nobility of action, with the thought of making our Club House one that would stand the test of time.
Our Philanthropies include The Hollygrove Orphanage, Los Angeles Rescue Mission, St. Vincent’s Meals on Wheels, and have included the Foundation for the Junior Blind, Hear Center and Save the Children Foundation (American Indian Program.)
We have raised many funds, hosted endless community forums, held inspiring cultural events throughout our One Hundred years and have had a wonderful time in doing so.
Our Shakespeare House, also known as the Hospitality House, had famous alumni including, Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Agnes DeMille, the Mayer, Goldwyn and Toberman girls, early screenwriter and author of "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" Anita Loos. Celebrated actor Charles Laughton and designer Edith Head taught here.
Celebrity Luncheons with Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Joan Crawford, W.B.Yeats and many others helped to insure the success of our annual Flower, and Fashion Shows, War Bond Dances and various other events hosted in the name of our charities.
